If you’re a software engineer, Google is the place to be if you want to be more likely to receive a higher pay than your peers.
That’s according to a study done by Glassdoor, a website that specializes in job listing and information.
The study reveals that Google is seeking to stay ahead of the competition in attracting top tech talents by offering higher pay. Glassdoor reveals that the average salary of a Google software engineer is at $128,336. Take note that that is base salary.
The tech industry has become very competitive when it comes to hiring the right people with the right sets of skills and talent for the job. That is why Google and other companies attract talent by offering high pays and other perks like great work conditions.

Nonetheless, Google’s nearest competitor when it comes to average salary per year is not that far behind with Glassdoor saying that Facebook, which comes in at second, offers an average yearly salary of $123,626 to its software engineers.
Furthermore, Facebook is closing in on Google with the difference in average yearly salary between the two companies decreasing from $6,582 to $4,710. This is after Google announced earlier a 10 percent across the board pay raise for all employees.
Meanwhile, Apple is at number three with an average base salary of $114,413. eBay comes next with $108,809 and Zynga is fifth with $105,568.
Those figures are comparatively higher than the national average base salary for software engineers which is at $92,648, Glassdoor reveals. Furthermore, it’s looking brighter for software engineers as a whole in the US as Glassdoor says that based on its collection of over 5,000 salary reports, software engineers increased their base salaries an average of 2.5 percent this year.
Here’s a table from Glassdoor detailing average base salaries for software engineers.
